Olle Norberg will be Vice Rector for Space
Olle Norberg, former Director-General at Swedish National Space Board, will be Vice Rector for Space at Luleå University of Technology.
– These are issues that I am passionate about, and that Luleå University of Technology has purposefully worked with for many years, he says.
Olle Norberg, originally from Kiruna, is one of Space-Sweden’s most experienced persons. He has worked at the The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), been the head of the Esrange Space Center and from 2009, until May 31 this year, Director-General at Swedish National Space Board.
After the summer he will start as Vice Rector for Space at Luleå University of Technology.
Strenghten space areas
– I am very pleased that this job allows me to continue to work to strengthen Swedish space areas, in form of education, research, space data and business development, says Olle Norberg, adding:
– Good relationships with academia, business and government are very important, and I think I can contribute with the contacts I have within the field.
Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor, and Jonas Ekman, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering, are pleased to welcome Olle Norberg to Luleå University of Technology.
– I cannot imagine anyone better than Olle Norberg to participate in the development of Luleå University of Technology – nationally and internationally – as a space university. The timing is excellent, with a new Swedish space strategy, a large interest for our space educations, our internationally-acclaimed research groups and our collaboration with regional and national companies within RIT and Aerospace Cluster Sweden, says Jonas Ekman.
Unique geographic position
Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn says a Vice-Rector for Space helps Luleå University of Technology to further strengthen its position in the field.
– We have a unique geographic position. Northern Sweden has strong ecosystems and competence clusters, with Luleå University of Technology, The Swedish Institute of Space Physics and the Swedish Space Corporation. It provides good conditions for developing education, research and business focusing on satellite data, space and space development, space mining, and temporary settlements on Mars.
