About me
Research Area
Katharina works with stormwater bioretention systems and other stormwater control measures (SCM). In a lab experiment with over 200 columns she investigated how 12 different plant species affect the metal and nutrient treatment performance of bioretention systems. Further the impact of bioretention systems on metal speciation was investigated. Katharina evaluated also if the results she obtained in the lab studies can be confirmed in the field. Further, she investigates how bioretention systems remove microplastics and how floating treatment wetlands contribute to microplastic contamination in the environment. With her studies, Katharina wants to support the sustainable implementation of SCMs in Sweden and world-wide.
