Housing
Luleå University of Technology will do its best to make sure you receive accommodation during your time of exchange studies. NB: This, however, only extends for a reasonable time. (i.e. It is not indefinite and is subject to you being in contact with the Housing Coordinator a few months prior to your arrival). It is your obligation to inform the Exchange Student Housing Coordinator housing.exchange@ltu.se of your arrival, especially of late arrival. You submit your interest in receiving accommodation from us when you make your exchange studies application in MoveON.
Once we receive your interest in accommodation, the Exchange Student Housing Coordinator will e-mail you with information regarding available housing options. Please reply to the Coordinator as soon as possible with your preferences. If no reply is received within the specified deadlines, this will be regarded as your intention to no longer receive housing assistance via LTU.
Please note that we cannot guarantee that all your requests will be met.
In order to provide everyone accommodation we reserve the right to make placement according to availability.
You also have to let us know if you decide to find an apartment on your own. When you submit the MoveON application, just click "no" for housing. For more information about how to find an accommodation on your own, see the guide to housing linked to below. You also have to fill out a ESN Luleå arrival form even if you are not planning to get picked up by ESN Luleå or receive our housing assistance.
Room assignments are made during the summer for autumn placements and late autumn for spring placements. Please note that the housing contract is for full months, i.e. autumn semester August to December and/or spring semester January to the second week of June and that you must arrive at the beginning of the semester to be guaranteed accommodation.
NB: This service is only available for students coming to Luleå or Piteå campuses. Those students intending to come to the Kiruna Campus need to contact the Department directly and they will do their best to assist you. Those students coming to the Skellefteå Campus: please contact SKEBO directly.
If you are a fee-paying Master Student, please consult the New Student page regarding housing.
Arrival
Arrival Week and Orientation Week
In August the Orientation activities take place one week before the start of the semester.
In January the Orientation activities are in the afternoons and evenings of the first week of the semester.
For the students who have been admitted to Swedish for International Students 1, the course will start during Orientation Week. Hence, late arrivals will make it difficult to follow the course.
ESN Luleå organise an Arrival Week (which is taking place the week before orientation). During this week, all exchange students will be met at the airport, train station or bus station by a member of ESN Luleå, provided you have sent them your arrival details. Please use the arrival form you will be sent, and tell them your exact date and time of arrival.
Academic Workshop
During Arrival Week and Orientation Week, the International Office is responsible for organising Academic Workshops. It is mandatory for all exchange students to attend at least one of them. These workshops deal with important information like course registration, exam registration and other important administrative issues that concern your studies.
LTU-card and User account
Upon your arrival you will have to get your LTU-card and User account for "My LTU". This is done at Service Point - during Arrival Week and Orientation Week (times and dates will be announced later by your coordinator). If you arrive late, you will have to discuss this with your coordinator.
