Bachelor Programme in Mineral Resource Engineering
Description
To meet the challenges of tomorrow, while minimizing environmental impact, graduates with unique expertise are required. A systematic knowledge over the entire value chain of minerals and metals is necessary, as well as an understanding of the Earth system, and specific knowledge of methods and processes to create a sustainable value chain. Through the unique structure of this educational program and in close collaboration with leading companies in the field, you as a student will already during your first year take part in real industrial challenges and issues, while getting to see future professional roles and network with employers.
After graduation you will be able to contribute to a sustainable use of minerals resources and to act in a global digitalized world. The program aims at educating you with the knowledge and skills needed to be able to contribute to the green transition and the subsequent increased demand for metals. The program is given in English and is open to students from all over the world. Courses focus on all the steps required in the entire value chain to explore, mine, extract, and recycle metal and minerals and how environmental, social, and economic aspects are handled, such as water, by-products, and waste.
During the first two years, you will take a project course that deals with the entire value chain for minerals and metals. The courses are given in collaboration with industry and have both practical and theoretical parts, such as experiments and field exercises. The project courses run in parallel with basic courses such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, mineralogy, and an introduction to earth sciences. This is the base you as an individual will need to understand problems and create solutions for the needs of the industry and society. In the third year, you will study human work science, raw material economics, and mathematical statistics, and deepen your knowledge through elective courses. This gives you the opportunity to impact your study plan and your own competences and skills for your upcoming career.
We have a long tradition of collaboration both in education and in research with world-leading companies in the field of exploration-, mining- and analysis companies, technology suppliers, as well as metallurgical industry, recycling companies, environmental consultants, and authorities. In combination, it gives us the opportunity to lead educational development in the field to create a unique international programme that trains people who are educated to meet future challenges. This also provide you as a student with the opportunity to integrate cutting edge research in conjunction with industry partners into your studies in project-oriented courses and the final thesis project.
After the bachelor's degree, you can continue your education by applying to one of our master's programs to specialize in the subject area.
