The program in Mineral Resource Engineering gives you tools and methods to find and manufacture, for example, battery metals, steel, rare earth metals for wind turbines or copper for our mobile phones. Meeting the challenges of tomorrow requires an understanding of how the earth works and how minerals and metals are mined and recycled in order to contribute to the sustainable use of our natural resources. The program is given in close collaboration with leading companies in the field, which gives you a unique opportunity to collaborate with and get to know the industry.

Description

The education is given in English and is open to students from all over the world. The training focuses on all the steps required to find, mine, extract, and recycle metal and minerals and how environmental, social and economic aspects are handled, such as water, by-products, and waste. The education is focused on project-oriented learning in collaboration with the business community.

During the first two years, you will take a project course that deals with the entire value chain for minerals and metals. The course is given in collaboration with companies and has both practical and theoretical parts, such as experiments and field exercises. The project course runs in parallel with basic courses in, for example, mathematics, physics, chemistry, mineralogy, and an introduction to earth sciences. In the third year, you will study work science, raw material economics, and mathematical statistics, and deepen your knowledge through elective courses.

After the bachelor's degree, you can continue in one of our master's programs to specialize in one area. It is also possible to take a Degree of Master of Science in Engineering later.

To meet the challenges of tomorrow, while minimizing environmental impact, engineers with unique expertise are required. A systematic knowledge over the entire value chain is necessary, as well as an understanding of the Earth system, and specific knowledge of methods and processes to create a sustainable value chain. Through the unique structure of the educational program, in close collaboration with leading companies in the field, you as a student will already during your first year take part in real industrial challenges and issues and also see future professional roles and network with employers. The education is given in English and is open to students from all over the world. 

Labour market

 The education gives you a broad technical competence in mineral resource engineering. After the training, you can, for example, work in the mining and minerals industry, in consulting companies, government organisations, and in the metal and recycling industry in Sweden and internationally.
