The Master programme in Applied Artificial Intelligence focuses on the application of AI to solve problems in several different sectors, such as industry and health. You will learn to use and develop self-learning intelligent systems and ethically responsible applications of AI.

The goal of the education is for students to learn how to develop self-learning intelligent systems and ethical responsible applications of AI in real-life use cases of benefit to industrial, research, educational, social, and health aspects of human life and society. The working methods vary between individual study, group work, seminars, and lectures. The core courses provide a socio-technical understanding of the field and related challenges. The programme also includes elective courses through which you can specialise in neuroscience and AI or industrial AI.

Description

Within the curriculum of the first year of study, important terms such as applied AI, machine learning, pattern recognition, neural networks, deep learning, are defined. The focus of the second year of study is the cutting edge research and trends in applied AI. Parallel to this, you can select courses geared toward neuroscience, neurochemistry, neuromorphic computing, robotics, computer vision and embedded intelligence. The second year ends with the completion of a master thesis.

This programme can be taken on campus in Luleå or remotely. As a distance student, you do not need to travel to campus at any time during your studies. A web-based learning management system and free video conference software are used. You must have access to a PC with a headset and a webcam, and permission to install the software.

Labour market

You will learn to master the tools and methods needed to tackle real-world problems with the help of AI and take on leading roles in teams at the forefront of technology development. You may work as an AI specialist in companies or continue your studies towards PhD. Areas of work include AI Designer, AI Product Manager, Doctoral Student, Research Engineer.

Academic degree of at least 180 higher education credits, of which at least 7.5 credits must include courses in programming and 22.5 credits in mathematics. The mathematics skills must include Calculus, Linear Algebra and one course in either Logic or in Statistics.

Good knowledge in English, equivalent to English 6
