Guidance for internships and trainee positions
What are internships and trainee positions?
Internships and trainee positions are when a student performs work at a company/organisation for a specified period of time. Internships are often a shorter period of about 8-10 weeks and are generally not paid. Traineeships are often carried out over a slightly longer period of time, around 6-12 months, and are also often paid.
What is required of me as a sponsor for internships and trainee positions?
Internships can be offered as part of a course at the university. The course description regulates the conditions and what the work can do. For internships outside the university's activities, the conditions are regulated between the person doing the internship and the person giving the internship. Trainee positions are regulated by the sponsor/employer.
How does cooperation with the university supervisor take place?
If the internship is part of the program, the conditions of the internship are regulated by the course description. Internships can also be offered outside the university's activities, but are not eligible for course credit.
Presentation of internship and trainee position
If the internship is part of the course, the presentation is regulated in the course description and may involve a written report, presentation or other work. Trainee work is regulated by the client.
Confidentiality and agreements
Internship in a course takes place by agreement with the student. Internships outside the university's activities are the same. A trainee position, like other employment, is regulated by an employment contract in agreement between both parties.
