How to apply, Musician
Your application in three steps:
1. Apply at www.universityadmissions.se
2. Audition – submit portfolio and a personal letter
3. Interview on Skype or Zoom
The University seeks applicants who demonstrate cognizance, introspection, and self-sufficiency in their artistry, in addition to high-level musical competence. In the interview, it is thus of distinction if the applicant can indicate a potential topic for the degree project, which is a central aspect of the programme. Since there is no set model for the degree project, it is favourable if the applicant is particularly passionate about a specific topic and has an awareness of both the subject to be explored, as well as the goals to be achieved.
The three steps of your application
1. Apply at universityadmissions.se External link, opens in new window.
Last day of application is Wednesday the 15th of January, 2025.
2. Audition – submit portfolio and a personal letter
The entrance exam for the Artistic Master’s Program in Musical Interpretation consists of a personal statement (email), audio/video samples, and a personal interview. Applicants must submit these by Sunday, March 9, 2025, to antagningsprovMUKOM@mailbox.ltu.se or alternatively to Luleå University of Technology in Piteå, Box 744, 941 28 Piteå. Mark the envelope with "Master Musician."
For musicians with a jazz or rock focus
Submit work samples along with the personal statement as clickable links to a broad selection of audio and/or video examples, preferably as YouTube links. We do not accept downloadable links, such as those from "yousendit.com."
The selection should provide a comprehensive view of your artistic profile. It is essential that each link is accompanied by detailed descriptions of when/how/where/why the recording was made and the exact role the applicant played in each production.
For musicians and singers with a classical focus
The entrance exam consists of a high-quality video recording in which the applicant performs a self-selected, varied repertoire with a total duration of 20–30 minutes. Works written for soloist and accompaniment should be recorded with an accompanying pianist.
The recordings should be in video format with good audio quality. The recording should begin with you stating your name loudly and clearly. You must be visible in full figure throughout the entire recording, with the camera positioned directly in front or slightly angled from the front.
Note: We will not accept recordings taken from behind or from the side.
Extra information for singers:
An assigned song and piano accompaniment recording will be announced on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Each applicant must learn this song and record it on video. This recording may be done at a different time from the rest of the repertoire. The applicant may use the pre-recorded accompaniment or work with a pianist.
For all applicants, regardless of profile:
Digital recordings (video for classical, video or audio for jazz or rock) should be accessible via internet links (YouTube, Dropbox, Vimeo, etc.). Each link must be accompanied by detailed descriptions of when/how/where the recording was made. Written statements, information about the recordings, and links must be submitted to us no later than Sunday, March 9, 2025, and sent to antagningsprovmukom@mailbox.ltu.se
3. Interview via Skype or Zoom
An additional individual interview based on the preceding material will be conducted via Skype or Zoom after your portfolio has been reviewed.
