Get more knowledge about what you share on internet
You can contribute to the internet becoming a safer place while learning about privacy online. This by testing two tools developed by researchers within the Privacy Flag project.
– We need to get real data in order to continue developing the tools, says Anna Ståhlbröst, Professor of Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology.
When you download apps or sign user agreements for different social media, you often agree to the company in question getting access to a variety of your personal data. For example, you may allow them to access your contact book, your location services, or your photos.
Get in control of what you share
Privacy Flag is a research project funded by the European Commission. The purpose of Privacy Flag is to develop systems and tools that make it easier for people to evaluate applications and websites from an integrity perspective. Now two tools are ready to be tested; an app and a browser add-on. The task of the tools is to investigate whether a page is user friendly or not, from an integrity perspective.
– For example the system can show if different web sites are clear in terms of personal information they collect and use, says Ali Padyab, PhD student in Information Systems.
– If you are on a web page and use our browser add-on, you can answer questions about the site and thus contribute to information gathering, and read what others wrote about the site. The sites are then graded from an integrity perspective.
You can help
In order to further develop these tools the researchers need your help.
– In addition to contributing to important research, you will learn more about online privacy and become more aware of its effects. Also, we want to ensure that as many opinions as possible are heard, says Ali Padyab.
The researchers of Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology focus mainly on the user-engagement part of the project, not least through Botnia Living Lab.
