The School of Music at Luleå University of Technology celebrates 40 years
In the autumn of 1978, the School of Music at Luleå University of Technology opened the doors for the first time. 40 years have passed and a wealth of worthwhile partnerships, fantastic people and cultural and artistic development have helped to make Piteå School of Music one of Sweden's creative hubs.
This fall this is celebrated with a host of arrangements linked to the anniversary. The program items include everything from organ concerts to opera and lectures on Spotify and music history.
– There have been 40 years of cultural and artistic development, and we want to pay attention to that, says Bo Jonsson, senior lecturer and department manager at Luleå University of Technology.
Celebrations with free festival
An obvious highlight will be on Saturday, October 20, when the public is welcomed to a Festival at Studio Acusticum where they will get to listen to concerts by both students and employees at the School of Music.
– It will be a day and evening full of experiences. We will offer everything from symphony orchestra concerts to organ, guitar, blues, Beatles and a popular music poppourri from 1978 to 2018. There will be something for everyone! In addition, the festival is completely free. We think it will be a fun way to celebrate 40 years with the public, says Bo Jonsson.
Wide set of skills
The open arrangements will then continue throughout the autumn until the traditional Christmas concert on December 13th. The program is compiled to show the wide breadth offered by the School of Music.
– The basic idea of the program is, of course, to celebrate, but also to meet partners, public and business in different venues, both in our own premises and in the city. We have therefore put together a wide program where we have the opportunity to showcase our versatility. Our hope is that even more people will discover us as an exciting organizer of various cultural experiences, and of course strengthen cooperation with our partners and business, says Bo Jonsson.
Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn looks forward to the celebration and commends the importance of the School of Music for the university and the region.
– The School of Music and our artistic activities are very important for the university as a whole, but also for the whole region. It gives us a unique profile among Swedish universities and enables new and exciting research areas and education in the cross-section between technology, art and human beings.
