Luleå University of Technology and Swerim strengthen collaboration
Luleå University of Technology and the metals research institute Swerim have signed a collaboration agreement on education, research and innovation.
The extended cooperation includes technical and social science research and innovation and must, according to the agreement, "be characterized by sustainability with an equality and gender perspective in order to exploit the full potential of the people working within both parties' organizations".
– We are Sweden's mining university and Swerim is Sweden's metals research institute. The new agreement strengthens and broadens an already successful collaboration between the country's two strongest research actors in the mining and steel industry, says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology, adding that the University and Swerim already work jointly within the national strategic research area CAMM (Center for Advanced Mining and Metallurgy).
"Playing an important role for the industry"
The new agreement also covers skills provision and competence development, with activities such as joint student recruitment and the development of new forms of education and learning.
– Cooperation is important to us in terms of both research and skills provision. Both we and Luleå University of Technology play an important role for the industry in these areas, says Pontus Sjöberg, CEO of Swerim.
He points out that Swerim and Luleå University of Technology have a long tradition of collaboration, which is becoming increasingly important with the strong business and research infrastructure that exists in northern Sweden.
– With actors such as SSAB, LKAB, Boliden, Northvolt, Luleå University of Technology and Swerim, the conditions for conducting joint research projects are very good.
