Great interest for studying at Luleå University of Technology
Almost 12,500 persons have been admitted to Luleå University of Technology's programs and courses that start in the autumn semester of 2020. This is an increase of 23 percent compared with the previous year.
– We are very happy about the great interest we see. There are many who have been notified and dismissed now during the corona crisis and it is a very good future strategy for them to take the opportunity to develop their skills. It feels very good that we at Luleå University of Technology can contribute to that, says vice-chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
Admission figures from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) show that a total of 307,000 people have been admitted to higher education this autumn. Nationally, this is an increase of 10 percent compared with the autumn semester 2019, but the increase at Luleå University of Technology is greater than that, close to 23 percent. 12,494 persons have been admitted to the university's programs and courses this autumn, compared with 10,163 last year.
Distance education
The increased interest for studying is noticeable among the university's educations in all areas.
As at a national level, there is also a great interest in distance education.
– This autumn's distance education has received just over 20 percent more applicants compared to 2019. It is a form of teaching that has steadily increased in popularity in recent years. The ongoing corona pandemic may have increased interest in distance education, but UHR has not yet analyzed the statistics for these educations, says UHR's director general Karin Röding in a press release.
