New record for the number of admissions to Luleå University of Technology
13,835 people have been admitted to Luleå University of Technology's programs and courses that start in the autumn term 2021. This is an increase of just over 10 percent compared with the previous year and means that the university's increase trend of admissions continues. Luleå University of Technology belongs to the top ten in the country of higher education institutions, which increases the number of admitted students the most.
–It is extremely gratifying that the number of applicants and admitted to our educations at Luleå University of Technology continues to increase. The increase in admission to our university and master's degree programs, is particularly gratifying at the moment, given the large industrial investments being made in northern Sweden, as well as for Bachelor programme in Early Years Education and Social Sciences, Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn says, Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology.
Admissions increase by ten procent
Admission figures from the Swedish Council for Higher Education, UHR, show that approximately 309,000 people have been admitted to higher education this autumn - an increase of just over 2,000 compared with the autumn of 2020. Nationally, this is an increase of 0.7 percent compared with the autumn term 2020. The increase of Luleå University of Technology is just over ten percent. 13,835 people have (in sample 1) been admitted to the university's programs and courses this autumn, compared with 12,494 last year. The largest increase is found in independent courses, which is an important part of lifelong learning.
The interest in studying is great and at Luleå University of Technology it is noticeable, among other things, in the large number of admitted to Bachelor programme in Early Years Education and Master programme in Primary Education, teaching in early years classes and grades 1-3 of the compulsory school and Master programme in Primary Education, teaching in grades 4-6 of the compulsory school, Social Sciences, educations in Health Sciences and most Master of Engineering programs.

–We warmly welcome all students to the autumn semester 2021 at Luleå University of Technology, both distance and campus students. We look forward to signaled relief from the Public Health Agency of Seden in terms of restrictions and of course hope for a more open and accessible campus in the autumn of 2021, Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, says.
Admission to distance education at the national level is increasing by 6.7 percent, just over 117,700 applicants are now offered a place. The distance education for programs has of course also increased at Luleå University of Technology, with two new program opportunities at a distance in the autumn of 2021 with many accepted. It is the Bachelor Programme in International Business Administration that for the first timeoffered at a distance with 100 admitted and Preparatory Programme in Technology at a distance with 100 accepted.
–The continued record interest in higher education can largely be explained by the long-running corona pandemic, says UHR's Director General Eino Örnfeldt. The biggest change is among applicants who are 35 years or older - here 47,329 have been admitted to distance education, an increase of 13.6 percent compared with the autumn of 2020.
