The University in new strategic collaboration
Luleå University of Technology and Hitachi ABB Power Grids have signed a strategic partnership agreement. The collaboration has focus on industrial transformation, skills development, talent supply and research that contributes to a carbon-neutral energy future.
Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a global leader in power technologies with 36,000 employees in 90 countries and customers across the energy, mobility, IT, industry and infrastructure sectors.
– Hitachi ABB Power Grids is a leader in future energy solutions for basic industries, data centers, transportation and smart cities. This partnership agreement is an important step in our efforts to strengthen our long-term strategic collaborations in education, research and innovation. This type of collaboration between academia and industry is also of great importance for us to meet today's and tomorrow's societal challenges, says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology.
Promote knowledge exchange and innovation
The goal of the strategic partnership is to strengthen the two operations through knowledge exchange and increased innovation, and to work together to meet the need for future labor.
– Luleå University of Technology has an important role in providing the region and Sweden with competent employees to enable the sustainable transition that is taking place, says Jenny Larsson, CEO of Hitachi ABB Power Grids Sweden.
– We look forward to contributing to a carbon dioxide-neutral energy system through research, skills development and knowledge exchange, which is the basis for the investments that need to be made, both in the north and the rest of the country.
Initially, the collaboration will focus on knowledge exchange and talent supply, where Hitachi ABB Power Grids will, among other things, give guest lectures and initiate degree projects. The parties will also collaborate in several of the university's major research and education initiatives:
CREATERNITY , which brings together researchers from 25 different subjects to take a holistic approach to developing the new circular economy with the help of artificial intelligence, telecommunications and sensor technology.
CH2ESS (Center for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden) whose main focus is hydrogen in industrial processes and energy systems.
Cloudberry Datacenters External link, opens in new window. where new knowledge is developed to make data centers more energy and resource efficient.
Circular economy
– We discuss a number of new collaborations with Hitachi ABB Power Grids; everything from energy-efficient data centers to the production and use of hydrogen as well as industrial solutions in the circular economy. We are also looking forward to several degree projects and other types of collaborations within our education at undergraduate and advanced level, says Karl Andersson, professor of pervasive and mobile computing and scientific leader for Creaternity.
