CMIS becomes CIAM – for the future of asset management in industry
The Centre for Maintenance and Industrial Services (CMIS) changes name to Centre of Intelligent Asset Management (CIAM). The new name covers a larger area and is a better reflection of the activities within the centre. CIAM is a platform where industry and academia can meet. This is where ideas are born for intelligent and sustainable asset management of the future.
Asset management today within the industry includes a lot more than maintenance, this is what the change of name wants to reflect. The cooperation with the industry is the heart of CIAM.
“Asset management covers a wide area which is a major challenge for the industry today and the coming 15–20 years. It includes not only machines and infrastructure, but also data, people, skills, and security. Development in this area is rapid, not least due to climate change and sustainability aspects,” says Ramin Karim, Operational Manager and Professor of Industrial AI and eMaintenance.
Strong members and potential for more
CIAM currently has six large member companies from the industry. The center offers opportunities for both collaboration and knowledge development. Ideas are born here to be developed into research projects in AI Factory. Within CIAM, companies can raise ideas and challenges that need to be solved, both problems that require solutions now and those that are expected to arise in the future.
The members are large industrial companies, but there is also the possibility for medium-sized companies to join.
“We are already strong and have an excellent cooperation with the industry but would like to grow even more. We want to gain more insights into needs for research and development activities ¬– in the short and long term. This is an opportunity for companies to accelerate their development, innovation process and competence. Both by cooperating with us and by exchanging experiences with our other partners,” says Ramin Karim.
Novel thinking together
As a member, the companies have access to the technology that is developed within AI Factory and the opportunity to influence which research that will takes place.
“Humanity has managed assets for thousands of years, now we need new ways of thinking. We want to challenge the status quo in asset management. Here is the chance to think outside the box together with us,” says Ramin Karim.
