Bright and green future during Creativity Impact Day
One of Luleå University of Technology's future areas, Creaternity, has had its first impact day. It began with a fictional press conference set in 2033 where the leaders described what had been achieved since the start and where the audience had a chance to ask questions.
"It is fascinating that we have achieved this shift in just 10 years", said Roland Larsson, scientific leader of Creaternity, referring to the networks that were created and the business partnerships that were necessary to succeed in the green industrial transition. He went on to praise the symbiosis that arose in the form of other types of businesses that flourished, in addition to the development of basic industries, something that they could not foresee from the start.
"It is fun to see that we consider the whole picture when we develop solutions. We had the technology, but we had to make it happen", said Lena Abrahamsson, the other scientific leader of Creaternity.
Anna Öhrwall Rönnbäck, one of the leaders of Creaternity's research school, pointed out how important this future area has become when it comes to competence supply.
"It is nice to see that so many of our first PhD students remain as leaders at the University, while many others work as change leaders in companies. We have really contributed with knowledge to the green transition", she said.
She calls the work they did the Creaternity model.
"At first we were worried that we would destroy our fine society here in northern Sweden by implementing the changes that were required. By working in different knowledge hubs, we solved the challenges of natural resource extraction and the construction of green energy sources versus land use based on ancient claims or use of nature for recreational purposes. We will now export this concept to other countries experiencing similar challenges", said Anna Öhrwall Rönnbäck.
The above is from a fictitious press conference set in 2033 about which Creaternity results the leaders want to see in 10 years.
The PhD students and their projects in focus
An important part of Creaternity's future is the graduate school that started when the future area was formed. In the first round, 13 PhD students were admitted and now there are soon 24 of them in the graduate school.
During a catwalk in the beautiful hall at Vetenskapen hus, each had to give a short description of their research project while showing a physical object that symbolises it. Afterward, they split into smaller groups and spoke in more detail about their research to an interested audience.
The day ended with an interview block in a sports studio format where both leaders and PhD students gave their views on where Creaternity is today and what is required to reach set goals in the future.
