Presents research at a parliamentary seminar
Anna-Krook Riekkola, assistant professor at Luleå University of Technology, is one of four invited researchers to a Riksdag seminar on systems analysis and decision-making in complex societal challenges. The seminar focuses on issues related to energy systems, climate change, community preparedness and sustainable social welfare.
"This is proof that the research we do is good and important. The title of my thesis 8 years ago was "National Energy System Modeling for Supporting Energy and Climate Policy Decision making: The case of Sweden", considering the focus of the seminar, it feels extra fun to actually get to talk to the decision makers in the Riksdag", says Anna-Krook Riekkola.
Support decision-making in complex societal challenges
The purpose of the seminar is to provide a platform for prominent researchers and members of the Riksdag to discuss how systems analysis can be used to support decision-making in complex societal challenges. This is due to the fact that decision-makers increasingly need to deal with uncertainty within sector-wide societal challenges, often with long time horizons, where knowledge from different research disciplines is needed.
Anna-Krook Riekkola has solid experience in system analysis and sustainable energy conversion. Her research revolves around sustainable energy transition both locally, nationally and globally.
The seminar is part of the Riksdag's annual event Research Day, which is organized to highlight the value of science for politics, democracy and decision-making. During the seminar, Anna-Krook Riekkola will speak under the heading "Energy systems and climate change: What can we influence and what should we control?" How systems analysis can support political decisions regarding the energy transition". The day ends with a panel discussion with four committee chairmen, after which all members present have the opportunity to ask questions about the research.
The seminar will be held on June 8th from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The general public can participate in the event digitally.
