Major funding for climate and nature research
Luleå University of Technology receives new funding to research how climate and nature conservation goals can be achieved. The research program, totaling 11million SEK, will involve entrepreneurs and civil society and will be conducted in collaboration between researchers at Luleå University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, and Uppsala University.
Simon Matti, Professor of Political Science, will lead the program.
"We are very pleased that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has entrusted us to closely examine the Swedish strategies for climate and biodiversity. This is important work because effective goal attainment requires that the various strategies work together and do not pull in different directions," says Simon Matti.
The program is interdisciplinary and aims to evaluate and further develop existing strategies for addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity. In the initial phase of the program, both the current barriers to implementing such strategies and the possibilities for developing policy measures will be analyzed. This includes examining the legal frameworks in place and the political institutions involved.
Concrete proposals for officials
"In addition to scientific findings, the program will provide guidance to officials and other stakeholders on how to leverage synergies between climate and biodiversity goals and avoid policy conflicts," says Simon Matti.
The program is funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, with project leadership at Luleå University of Technology.
