The Swedish Installation Federation and Luleå University of Technology strengthen partnership for a sustainable future
The Swedish Installation Federation and Luleå University of Technology have signed a memorandum of understanding with a view to strengthen the partnership within education and research. The aim is to increase the innovation and development rate within the areas climate, energy, electrification, and digitalisation, and to secure the needed competence in the installation sector.
“Installations play an ever-increasing role in all kinds of construction, since they have a large impact on energy efficiency. To sign an agreement of this kind is very important to Luleå University of Technology, as it strengthens our research and education within the field and is beneficial for the sector”, says Johan Larsson, Associate Professor and Head of Industrialised and Sustainable Construction at Luleå University of Technology.
The partnership improves sustainability
The Swedish Installation Federation is a trade and employers’ organisation with 4,000 member companies that install, optimize and control heating, ventilation, water, electricity and telecommunications in buildings and other structures. To understand the whole picture and how different choices of installations have an impact on, for example, the electricity supply system is crucial for the transition towards climate-neutral construction. Through electrification, energy efficiency and smart installations in our buildings, the sustainability in society may be improved.
The memorandum of understanding will lead to a closer partnership between the installation sector and Luleå University of Technology and will increase the attractiveness and opportunities of higher education within the area of installation, a sector of growing importance.
“By building a strong working relationship with Luleå University of Technology, we promote valuable knowledge transfer and play a more active role in developing skills supply in the sector. Our intention is to provide the society with sustainable skills and new solutions within the area of installation more swiftly,” says Johnny Petré, Chair of the Swedish Installation Federation.
The installation sector will also take greater responsibility regarding support for research and education at Luleå University of Technology, through a higher number of joint research and development projects within the installation sector.
The agreement has been signed by Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology, and Ola Månsson, CEO of the Swedish Installation Federation. Other participants in the meeting at which the signing was announced were Johnny Petré, Johan Larsson and Anders Gustin, Senior Policy Advisor at the Swedish Installation Federation, who will lead the work on the part of the Swedish Installation Federation.
