Ivan Milovanovic

Ivan Milovanovic is a postdoctoral researcher in Urban Water Engineering at Luleå University of Technology. He joined the research group as a postdoctoral researcher after defending his PhD in 2025. His research focuses on stormwater quality and the identification, transport and treatment of pollutants in urban runoff, with particular emphasis on suspended solids, metals and microplastics. His previous work has combined laboratory experiments, field monitoring and system evaluation to assess compact, area-efficient stormwater treatment solutions.

Ivan currently works primarily in two research projects: BalticGrow and the FTIR sensor project. In BalticGrow, he contributes to research on multifunctional green and blue-green roofs, with a focus on their stormwater performance and their role in sustainable urban water management. In the FTIR project, he investigates how handheld FTIR spectroscopy can be used to identify plastic materials and support source tracking of microplastics in urban catchments. Through this work, his research connects pollutant characterization, treatment performance and the practical implementation of sustainable stormwater solutions.
