Engage with us
Many companies in a number of different industries are facing major challenges and opportunities linked to automation, digitization, globalization, an increased need for investment in sustainable production and distribution processes, and the supply and development of skills. Meeting these challenges requires innovative thinking in the form of companies developing, testing, scaling up and implementing new processes, products and services with the aim of strengthening competitiveness and sustainability in the region. Used correctly, these challenges can be turned into practical opportunities for companies in the region.
Norrlandsnavet will be the development center where companies' challenges are turned into practical opportunities. In northern Sweden, demographics, with an aging population and the migration of younger workers, are a major challenge. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in creating jobs and growth.
The center will focus for eight years on both larger (50-250 employees) and smaller (5-10 employees) SMEs to gain a deeper understanding of different needs and growth barriers and what drives the growth of SMEs in the region. Luleå University of Technology turns to the region's companies, industry organizations and regional actors to identify companies' needs and challenges in order to accelerate growth opportunities through NorrlandsNavet. At the same time as this takes place, the value offers that Luleå University of Technology has in the form of research and education in various thematic areas such as:
- growing and innovative companies
- SMEs in northern Sweden's ecosystem
- smart and attractive region
- lifelong learning and digitalization in SMEs.
It is the company and Luleå University of Technology that together identify challenges where a collaboration with researchers or students at Luleå University of Technology can contribute to the development of the company and business operations in northern Sweden.
The Norrlandsnavet approach
- Research in collaboration
- Education as a part of lifelong learning
- Student collaboration
- Dissemination of new knowledge
