The course combines various development logics and models for sustainable product and service design through practical examples and exercises. A user perspective will guide every step.
The course starts from the broader concept of sustainability, i.e. ecological, economic and social sustainability, where both the developers ' and users' responsibility are highlighted through a holistic approach in early development. The relationship between good design and sustainability are made clear by introducing various dimensions of innovation processes. Discussions and conversations about the products’ and services’ impact on people’s life and work are included to some extent.
Students are assessed through written reports of group work and on individual reflection. Oral presentations are part of the examination. The students have to demonstrate the ability to describe, apply and reflect on the for the course central elements to achieve the grade ‘Pass’.
