Biorobotics
7,5 credits, course, master's level, R7017E
Application period starts 2026-09-15
Discover how biology inspires the next generation of intelligent robots. In this course, you will explore locomotion, dynamics, control, and learning to design bioinspired robotic systems that move, adapt, and interact with the real world.
You will begin by examining biological locomotion and gait patterns, understanding why movement strategies in animals are efficient, robust, and adaptable. These insights form the foundation for studying robot kinematics and dynamics, enabling you to mathematically model motion and interaction with the environment. Building on this, the course introduces control strategies and learning-based approaches that allow robots to achieve stable, efficient, and intelligent motion behavior.
Throughout the course, you will develop the ability to critically analyze state-of-the-art research in biorobotics and relate biological principles to engineering design. Working in teams, you will strengthen your skills in scientific evaluation, technical communication, and the application of theoretical concepts to real robotic systems.
After completing the course, you will be able to model and analyze robotic locomotion using kinematics and dynamics, design and evaluate control strategies for stable movement, and understand how learning-based approaches can enhance robotic performance. You will gain a multidisciplinary perspective that equips you to contribute to research and innovation in robotics, AI-driven systems, and bioinspired engineering.
