Best possible conditions for learning
Veronica Grimheden Myhrström is the education and labor market director in Nacka Municipality. Here she tells more about the AI education from LTU Professional Education that the municipality ordered.
Tell us more about the education
Together with Luleå University of Technology, we developed a broad education in AI for municipal managers and officials, but also for principals and educators in both independent and municipal schools in Nacka Municipality. As a municipality, we are keen to be forward-looking in several different areas that are current and provide the best possible value for taxpayers' money.
How did you get in touch with Luleå University of Technology?
We continuously monitor the outside world to find collaboration with colleges and universities based on the needs we see in the municipality. In this case, we collaborated Luleå University of Technology, as they were both flexible and adaptable and could consider co-creating the education with us.
In a municipality, there are of course very many different roles and thus very different needs. We work together with the digitalization function to ensure that we follow the municipality's digital strategy and with the HR function to ensure that it lands correctly for managers and officials in the municipality. The training is being developed in collaboration with representatives of the municipal principal to ensure relevance for educators and principals.
Then, of course, it is important that the professors who provide the training have high profiles in their respective fields, and seem to have a high level of pedagogical skills.
What is the structure of the course?
The entire program will be offered at a distance. The first part is a basic course with self-study. Part two is a leadership training and there is a mix of self-study with two teacher-led meetings and a physical meeting. Part three is about generative AI for educators with a focus on AI as a tool for learning. There will be three teacher-led sessions in addition to the self-studies.
The basic part will be available from June 2024.
What is the overall benefit of the training?
For leaders, the training is about getting tools to lead in a changing world, how to relate to the new technology and how to best use the opportunities that AI brings. For educators, the focus is primarily on generative AI as a tool for learning.
Offering training in AI for both employees in the municipality and for those who work in Nacka's schools, independent and municipal, generates benefits on several levels – for the municipality's work in general, but also as a further step towards the goal that every student in Nacka's schools should have the best possible conditions for learning.
