Collaboration with the University of Hiroshima in architecture
The research subject in architecture at Luleå University of Technology and Hiroshima University have been granted a seed collaboration project to study urban sustainability in small towns.
"For this pilot work, the case studies will be municipalities in northern Sweden (Norrbotten, Västerbotten) and Japan (Higashi-Hiroshima and Fukuyama), says Agatino Rizzo, professor and Head of Subject in Architecture at Luleå University of Technology.
Cities of any size are contributors to global CO2 emissions. The ongoing energy industrial transition is supposed to address this problem. However, there is limited knowledge on how small towns are dealing with the transition.
LTU Architecture (prof. Agatino Rizzo) and Hrisohisma University (prof. Ayyob Sharifi) are going to study the conditions and capacities that small and medium cities have to lead the transition and what type of coordination is needed to succeeded.
- The project addresses The Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 11.
