Action project in collaboration with preschool principals
The aim is to create in-depth knowledge about management and control of the systematic quality work with a focus on equal education in preschool.
Who are we?
The management of the preschool in Luleå consists of the head of operations, Annica Backman, and the development managers Susann Sunnarve and Maria Stark. Together with researcher Susanne Westman, Ltu, they want to carry out an action research project on management and governance in collaboration with preschool principals.
The area of R&D practice-oriented research
Equality in the school system is a necessary development area nationally in Sweden. Luleå municipality has equivalence as a development area where equivalence in education and teaching is followed up through the systematic quality work. The preschool in Luleå strives to develop a working and approach where management functions use collegial learning and experience-based learning for the quality and equivalence of education. The Swedish Schools Inspectorate (2018) has identified shortcomings in preschools' way of creating conditions for learning and participation in education.
Research shows that sustainable development work benefits from a group mapping its own culture. To develop the culture, leadership is needed that is value-based, appreciative, transparent, development and process-oriented, where exploration is encouraged. In an action research project where exploration takes place jointly between the participants, there is an opportunity to generate, share and disseminate knowledge about how management and governance can contribute to development work for improved quality and equivalence.
Purpose of the project
The purpose is to create in-depth knowledge about management and governance of the systematic quality work with a focus on equal education in preschool. The project explores conditions and strategies for sustainable systematic quality work at different levels of the organization such as development culture, actor readiness, development and process management, leadership for development as well as structure, organization, working methods and methods.
Implementation and documentation
Initially, training efforts are made to learn more about action research as a model. In the spring of 2020, joint work will take place in the operational management to identify needs and actions. Subsequently, it may also lead to actions in the rector group. The project is continuously documented in the form of a logbook, mind maps, photos and interviews. Research articles are also included.
Dissemination of results
Dissemination will take place in the preschool and Luleå municipality's information channels and the university's through, for example, articles, monthly letters and blogs. Presentations can also be made within ULF networks, action research conferences, SKR and other contexts within and outside Luleå municipality and LTU.
