Learning outcomes:
After completing the course, the student shall
• be able to account for a couple of classic texts within the field of human work science – their respective content, focus and main contribution
• demonstrate the ability to reflect on gender and equality within human work science
• be able to reflect upon and analyze own research from an human work science perspective
The above learning outcomes implies that this course targets the following national criteria for a doctoral degree, as numbered in the Appendix B to the individual study plan: 1.1 and 2.1
The course addresses the goal that the doctoral student should demonstrate broad knowledge and a systematic understanding of the research area, in this case human work science. The course also contribute to the doctoral students ability to critically review and assess literature in the field of human work science as well as to the development of knowledge in general and within human work science. The course also includes knowledge related to gender and equality in human work science.
Course content and methods:
The overall aim of the course is to give the doctoral student:
• a broad ‘general education’ in human work science
• a theoretical base for one´s own dissertation work
• opportunity to position oneself within the theoretical field of human work science
• skills to approach classical work (texts) with a critical perspective
• opportunity to discover classic text/s to include in one’s own thesis
• introduction to the developments and debates characterizing the human work science of today
The course includes 10-12 literature seminars (approximately two hours per session) and a concluding essay seminar. At each literature seminar, one or two classic texts chosen by each responsible researcher is presented and discussed. Thus, throughout the course, a series of classic texts are focused, discussed and reflected upon. However, there is no ambition to be fully comprehensive, neither to create a canon for human work science, but instead the aim is to highlight some of the central classic texts within the field of human work science and to conduct an in-depth discussion about these. At the final essay seminar, the doctoral students present their respective essay along with a summarizing reflection. More detailed information about literature, schedule and instructions for seminars will be presented in a study guide no later than one month before the course start.
Language:
The lectures and seminars will be held in Swedish. The literature will be in both English and Swedish.
Course literature:
Information about the course literature is given in the schedule for each seminar as well as in the study guide. This will be supplemented and updated continuously in Canvas.
Examination form: The course is examined through continuous active contributions (orally) from the course participants during the seminars (as mentioned above) and a written essay where one classic text is presented and discussed.
