Centres of Excellence and collaborations
Centres of Excellence at Luleå University of Technology are a special organisational structure for close collaboration between the University and external partners in business and public sector. The aim is to develop and utilise skills in a particular activity through research and development.
Through the collaborative model of centres, the university’s role as a resource for the wider community is strengthened. External partners take part in formulating problems and developing project descriptions, and may also contribute resources to project funding. The centre can also serve as a platform for applying for research funding where collaboration with external partners is required. Furthermore, external partners may participate in projects through their own work.
The activities within a centre shall encompass both academic depth and academic breadth. Preferably, several disciplines within the university, or from other universities or higher education institutions, should be included in the centre’s activities. The external partners involved in a centre shall create favourable conditions for quality and breadth in its operations.
