IT tools during your studies
When you become a student at LTU, you also get access to a number of IT services you can use during your studies. Maybe you want to have your student e-mail on your cell phone, install Office on your computer or connect to our VPN service?
Email for students
When you activate your user account, you will automatically have access to a Google email account (with the address LTU-id@student.ltu.se, e.g. abcdef-4@student.ltu.se).

You can also add your student email to your mobile phone.

You can also choose to have your email forwarded to an email address you already use without any email being stored by Google.
The Canvas learning platform
Canvas is a cloud-based learning platform used in education. Students and teachers can communicate, manage materials, tests, assignments and more.
You get viewing rights to your course room when you are admitted to the course and full student rights are granted after you've completed course registration.

Microsoft 365 for students
As a student, you get access to Microsoft's cloud platform M365 throughout your studies.
Among other things, you get access to:
- Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneDrive and much more.
- Ability to install the software on up to 5 devices.
- 1TB storage in OneDrive

VPN
To access some of the services and resources at LTU you will need to connect to our VPN-service when you're outside of campus.
To get started with configuring VPN on your computer, choose your type of device below.
Setting up VPN on your Windows PC
- Download the file LTUStudentVPN.msi You can find the file here External link..
- Run the installation file you just downloaded.
- Click on the network icon in the system tray next to the computer clock and select the LTU-StudentVPN VPN connection.
- Log in with your LTU username and Eduroam password . In future logins, your login details will be saved.
If you have changed the password to Eduroam or accidentally entered the wrong password
- Click on the Start menu, type VPN.
- Click on the result VPN settings.
- Click on LTU-StudentVPN and then click on Advanced options.
- Click the Clear sign-in info button.
- Connect to the VPN again and enter the new password.
- Download the certificate and VPN profile. You can find the files here. External link.
- Go to your downloaded files, double click on the downloaded certificate called LTU-vpn-ca-crt and authorize with your Mac password.
- When you get to choose which keychain you want to add the certificate to, select System and click Add.
- Find and launch Key Manager, locate the LTU private CA (vpn) certificate and open it.
- For IP Security (IPsec), select Always trust.
- Close the Key Manager.
- Go back to Downloaded files, and double click on the VPN-ikev2-student.mobileconfig file.
- Click on the Apple in the top left corner and select System Settings.
- Go to Privacy and Security, select Profiles.
- Double-click on the VPN-ikev2-student profile, select Install.
- You should now end up in VPN in System Settings, click on the ⓘ to the right of the VPN profile slider.
- Fill in your LTU username and your Eduroam password. Click on OK.
- Click on the profile slider to connect to LTU's VPN.
The guide is written for Ubuntu 22.04, but should look similar for any distribution that uses Gnome as the desktop environment.
The guide assumes that you are familiar with Linux.
Configure VPN
- Download the CA certificate for LTU's VPN. External link.
- Install the following packages:
- strongswan
- network-manager-strongswan
- libcharon-extra-plugins
- Open Settings in Ubuntu and go to Network .
- Click the plus button next to VPN.
- Select IPsec/IKEv2.
- Fill in the information as below:
Address: studvpn-ikev2.ltu.se
Certificate: Select the certificate you downloaded in step 1
Authentication: EAP (Username/Password)
Username: Your LTU username
Password: Your Eduroam password
In Options, Request and inner IP address as well as Enforce UDP encapsulation must be enabled. - Click Save, you should now be able to connect to LTU's VPN.
The instructions that follow are written for a Samsung phone, for other phones it may differ where you install the VPN certificate.
Instructions - Download and install the CA certificate
- Download LTU's VPN certificate. You will find it here. External link.
- Install the VPN certificate
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Select the category Biometrics and security and then Other security settings , alternatively search for security and select Other security settings in the search results.
- Select Install from Device Storage and then CA Certificate.
- Select the file you just downloaded.
Instructions - Add a VPN profile
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Select Connections.
- Select More connection settings.
- Select VPN.
- Tap the three dots on the top right and select Add VPN profile.
- Fill in and select as below:
Name: LTU staffvpn
Type: IKEv2/IPSec MSCHAPv2
Server address: studvpn-ikev2.ltu.se
Under IPsec CA certificate: Select the certificate you just installed on the phone.
Username: Your LTU username
Password: Your password for Eduroam
