Erik Westberg's Vocal Ensemble has reached millions of listeners all over the world and is today considered one of the country's absolute top choirs. This autumn the ensemble turns 25 and that it is celebrated with a tour that begins in Piteå on Thursday.
Two of the university's teachers in composition were nominated in the category "This Year's Art Music - Ensemble / Opera" when the candidates for the Music Publishers Prize were presented. This means that half of the nominees are active at the School of Music at Luleå University of Technology.
In the autumn of 1978, the School of Music at Luleå University of Technology opened the doors for the first time. 40 years have passed and a wealth of worthwhile partnerships, fantastic people and cultural and artistic development have helped to make Piteå School of Music one of Sweden's creative hubs.
Stefan Östersjö has since this autumn been a new subject representative and professor of musical performance at Luleå University of Technology. The classically-educated guitarist is internationally active, especially in contemporary art music, and comes from the Music School of Malmö. One of the goals set is to create closer cooperation with other institutions, both nationally and internationally.
A recently completed research project at Luleå University of Technology has investigated how different types of concert hall acoustics affect the performers' experiences of music performances. The research finds that acoustics have an actual impact on the interpretation of the music - a discovery that can change the design of future concert venues.
