Interdisciplinary teaching for sustainable development
The project will develop and study cross-curricular teaching that has the potential to encourage students to question, explore and formulate new courses of action on issues related to sustainable development. Through action research, Råneskolan's teachers will gain increased knowledge about how teaching for sustainability issues can be realized in education.
Who are we?
The project group consists of secondary school teachers and principals at Råneskolan and researchers from Luleå University of Technology.
Solange Perdahl (principal) and Katarina Wennberg (deputy principal), Jonas Edström (teacher so), Anders Åberg (teacher ma, no), Mariel Palo (teacher so, sv, spec.ped.), Daniel Nyström (teacher music) and Gunnar Jonsson (assistant professor of pedagogy LTU).
The area of R&D practice-oriented research
Schools have always had, and will always have, an important role in society's transformation towards sustainable development. The rapid transformation of society that is now taking place will place changing demands on the competencies that schools must develop. If we are to move towards sustainable development in the near future, we need creative, knowledgeable and energetic people. This is fully in line with both the National Agency for Education and UNESCO's description of learning for sustainable development as holistic, transformative and action-oriented.
Purpose of the project
The aim is to develop and study cross-curricular teaching that has the potential to encourage students to question, explore and formulate new options for action on issues related to sustainable development.
The project should lead to Råneskolan's teachers gaining increased knowledge about how teaching for sustainability issues can be realized in teaching, without sacrificing subject knowledge or leading to reduced goal achievement for students. The project therefore consists of two parts that are mutually supportive: 1) Develop interdisciplinary teaching and 2) through action research gain knowledge about their own practice and thus get opportunities to change it. This may involve, for example, identifying factors that affect pupils' learning, exploration, questioning and action competence.
Implementation and documentation
The project is carried out as action research. Regular reflection moments will be carried out. The group meets via digital and physical meetings that will be documented via notes and audio recording.
Dissemination of results
The process and results will be presented to other schools in the Gammelstad Sunderbyn Råneå area group. We also intend to publish an article in the Children and Education Administration's research report series (Luleå municipality).
