The Vice-Chancellors Medal of Merit and Jubilee Medal
The Vice-Chancellor has the opportunity to award the Medal of Merit and the Jubilee Medal to someone who has distinguished themselves through their contributions to the university. The medals are awarded during the Academic Ceremony.
The Vice-Chancellor's Medal of Merit
The Vice-Chancellor's Medal of Merit is awarded for outstanding contributions to Luleå University of Technology or for meritorious activities within one of the university's areas of activity. It is the Vice-Chancellor who decides who will receive the medal.
The last recipient of the Medal of Merit was Senior Professor Lennart Elfgren in 2023. Before that, Erik Höglund, Professor Emeritus, and Karin Axelsson, Professor Emerita, each received a Medal of Merit in 2021.
Jubilee medal
On the occasion of the University's 50th anniversary in 2021, a jubilee medal was established, which is awarded every ten years by decision of the Vice-Chancellor. The medal will go to a person who, through commitment and particularly valuable contributions, has promoted Luleå University of Technology's activities and development.
The first recipient of the jubilee medal was Honorary Doctor Anders Sundström. The next jubilee medal will be awarded in 2031.
