Humanities and social sciences - general syllabi
Here are the general syllabi for subjects within the humanities and social sciences, listed in alphabetical order. An approved general syllabus is a pre-requisite for admission of third-cycle students within a particular research subject.
Accounting and Control
The discipline includes accounting, finance, investment, cost-benefit analysis, and models for decision making and governance. Accounting includes both internal and external accounting. Governance refers mainly to financial control on strategic and tactical level. The discipline also covers the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of models for financial control.

Economics
- Economics concerns the study of how society can be organized to make efficient use of scarce resources. Research focuses on the economics of natural resources, energy and the environment. It applies microeconomic theories to study the behaviour of energy and raw materials markets as well as how these markets are influenced by public policy.

Education
Education encompasses aspects of learning, upbringing, teaching, and other influence processes in formal and non-formal contexts. A particular focus in research is directed toward relationships, participation and collaboration, communication, the teaching profession, digital technology, as well as governance and leadership. Education has three orientations: general education, special education and preschool education. Research within these orientations is conducted based on their specific target groups and in relation to conditions, content, actors and contexts within education.

History is the study of humans as social beings with an emphasis on the development, organisation and change of societies over time. The research specialises in the examination of the history of technology at the interface of natural resources, humans and the environment. This includes both how technology has had an impact on humans and society, and how humans have influenced the development of technology.

Language, Literature and Education
Language, literature and education focuses on research related to language and literature in schools, subject didactics, and teacher education. Mathematics and Science Education

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy encompasses and develops knowledge of human daily activities in relation to development processes, participation and health. The subject studies how factors related to the individual in interaction with environmental factors affect the ability of individuals, groups and populations to engage in daily activities and the importance of such activities to health and ill health. Furthermore, occupational therapy includes knowledge of how activities can be used therapeutically to promote health and development, and prevent ill health.

The research is primarily concerned with issues regarding how individuals and interest groups as well as various political and administrative systems deal with natural resources, energy and environmentally related conflicts and agreements. Disciplinary orientation is mainly public policy and administration, institutional analysis, comparative politics, public opinion studies and political theory.

Physiotherapy and Health Promotion
Physiotherapy and Health Promotion focuses on human movement and its impact on health and quality of life. The subject aims to identify and strengthen factors that contribute to an active and healthy life. It includes health promotion and prevention at individual, group, and societal levels, as well as the treatment of conditions that limit function, activity, and participation.

Psychology
Psychology is the systematic exploration of an individual's experiences, behaviour and biology and their interrelationships and underlying mechanisms. The research aims to describe and understand human emotions, thoughts and behaviours in different situations and environments.
