School of Music in Piteå at Luleå University of Technology

At the School of Music, musicians and teachers are trained in various genres. Internationally leading research in musical design is conducted here, in collaboration with research centers in Europe and the USA.

At the School of Music, research and education are integrated and carried out in close collaboration with the regional music scene in Norrbotten.

The School of Music in Piteå was founded in 1978 as part of Luleå university of technology. In the same building as the School of Music is also Sweden's leading education in audio engineering, and Studio Acusticum which is one of northern Europe's most modern concert halls.

 

The School of Music is located on the university campus in Piteå. There is also a business village.

Under the same roof as the music programmes, there are also programmes in journalism and sound technology. Dances courses are also offered  in the same premises. It provides good opportunities for collaborations ,both within the framework of the respective educational program and between the educational subjects, with in and outside of the regular schedule. 

RAFAEL ADOBAS BAYOG
Music student winner of international flute competition

On 27 March 2022 Rafael Adobas Bayog was awarded with the 1st prize in the Kobe International Flute Competition. Rafael Adobas Bayog is a flutist in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and a student from the International Orchestra Academy at Piteå School of Music, Luleå University of Technology.

Erik Karsendal is studying composition at the School of Music in Piteå at Luleå University of Technology. His piece "Snön" ("The Snow") will be premiered during a concert from Studio Acusticum in Piteå which is broadcasted to millions of listeners through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Studio musician becomes this year's Allan Edwall Fellow

Bassist Klas Höglund has been awarded the 2021 Allan Edwall scholarship. He is currently studying to be a studio musician at the Academy of Music in Piteå at Luleå University of Technology.

She comps the breakthrough of female suffrage

This year it was exactly one hundred years ago that women were allowed to vote for the first time in Sweden. Norrbottensteatern draws attention to this with a revue by Emma Molin and Emma Peters from the humor group Grotesco. In the ensemble plays Anna Wedin, who is on leave from her job as a teacher in ensemble, bass and singing at the Academy of Music in Piteå.
