The history of teacher education
In the fall of 1907, the public school seminary started with 18 male students in temporary premises in central Luleå. The seminary also included a training school. Two years later, construction began on the premises in Östermalm, where the seminary was housed from 1911 until 1987.
From the autumn of 1919, women were also allowed to apply for the education and the seminary thus became Sweden's first and only co-seminary until 1936. The education attracted great national attention and was seen by many as a daring experiment.
Pioneering education
Even today, the teacher education in Luleå is pioneering through its distance education, which is characterized by innovative and creative working methods.
