5G in the wood industry
Private 5G/4G networks are becoming an established infrastructure for private networks and can solve some of the challenges around, for example, mobility and wireless network coverage. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is a relatively new role for 4G/5G networks and to ensure that you invest in a deployable solution and know what kind of compatible devices can be connected to the network (may be different depending on the frequency bands the network/radio equipment supports).
There is broad competition today - and even more so in the coming years (many large cloud providers sell 5G networks as a service in the US, and will come to us sooner or later) so it is highly likely that both the infrastructure and devices to connect to the network will become cheaper and more available in the near future.
A good starting point could be to establish a good outdoor coverage that covers both the timber sorting and unloading area with the warehouse area and start with the services that require stable connection for trucks and vehicles. Then expand with indoor coverage to, for example, get full coverage for services such as push-to-talk and additional cameras in both indoor environments.
