Evaluation of moisture sensors for wooden structures
The report evaluates five commercially available moisture sensors: Invisense, Omnisense Hygrotrac, Protimeter BLE, Wiiste and Woodsense. The evaluation took place both in controlled environments with climate cabinets and in an outdoor environment in Skellefteå from June 2020 to August 2022.
The sensors that passed the full evaluation can all be recommended for different applications. Invisense consists of a sensor printed on a self-adhesive plastic film and, due to its size and cost, is particularly suitable for installation in wet rooms and other areas where moisture can occur in wooden buildings. Omnisense comes with a built-in memory which makes it particularly suitable for monitoring wooden structures that do not have electricity or internet access. Woodsense and Wiiste are very similar but where Woodsense has a smaller form factor, Wiiste has the ability to measure moisture at two different depths.
