Course Aim
The main aim of the course is to provide the student knowledge on the potential role of fossil free hydrogen value chains in a sustainable industry and society. This is done by
- Providing state-of-the art knowledge in the four key stages: (1) production, (2) storage, (3) distribution, and (4) utilization in industry and transport
- Giving insights on safety issues, material aspects, opportunities for industrial symbiosis etc.
- Giving insight in ongoing commercial hydrogen initiatives and developing projects
Contents
It is required to take the MOOC course (max. 12 hours or less): https://www.ltu.se/ltu/Samverkan/LTU-Professional-Education/Utbildningar/Gratis-onlinekurser-MOOC/MOOC-Vatgas-for-nyfikna-Vad-ar-vatgas-och-varfor-ar-det-viktigt-1.225485?l=en Länk till annan webbplats. prior to the course
The lectures include:
- The potential role of hydrogen in a fossil free and sustainable society
- Hydrogen production and conversion technologies incl. techno-economic performance
- Hydrogen storage technologies
- Distribution & grid infrastructure
- Industrial hydrogen use, with special emphasis on metal industries
- Hydrogen for transports
- Opportunities for industrial symbiosis
- Study visits and workshop
Examination
To receive course credits, a project work must be carried out and presented orally and in a written document in one of the following formats:
- A draft research proposal or
- A draft journal or conference manuscript or
- Contributions to CH2ESS newsletters
- Conventional research report in a relevant topic
The work is preferably carried out in groups of two or three students. It is encouraged that the group compositions (and final report) are interdisciplinary.
Realization
The MOOC is taken prior to the course start. Lectures including guest lectures from industry, workshops, study visits and project group meetings. Each project group is assigned a senior contact person. However, the students supervise each other during regular meetings. The first part of the course consists of lectures, workshops and study visit(s) (approximately 24-30 hours of lectures). The second part consists of project work including oral presentations (approximately 176 hours).
Literature
Scientific papers and reports, statistical reports
