Information for new professors and adjunct professors
As a new professor or adjunct professor, you are welcome to a ceremony at Kulturens hus in Luleå city centre, 9 November 2024. The ceremony is followed by a banquet at the university campus. You may invite three guests. Last day to register is 30 September.
Invitation and registration
If you started your employment as a new professor or adjunct professor between 1 October 2023 and 31 August 2024, you are invited to the inauguration and welcome ceremony and banquet on 9 November 2024.
The invitation is sent out at the beginning of September and the deadline for registration is 30 September 2024.
After registration, you will receive a receipt to your e-mail (if it does not reach your inbox, check your spam folder) together with a code. The code is your and your banquet guests' entry ticket to Kulturens hus and the banquet. Present the receipt with the entry code at the respective entrance, either via mobile or printout.
The university will cover the cost of the banquet for you.
Guests
You may invite three paying guests to accompany you to the banquet, whom you register via the link in the invitation. The cover charge for your guests to the banquet is SEK 850 per person and is paid by card upon registration.
The ceremony at Kulturens hus will also have room for some extra relatives/friends in addition to your banquet guests. These guests must be registered (first name, last name) no later than 7 November 2024 to: akademiskhogtid@ltu.se, as they also need an entry code. There is no charge for guests who are only present during the ceremony.
Insignia
During the ceremony, you will receive the diploma from the Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
Rehearsal
For everything to run smoothly, it is necessary to have a rehearsal. This will take place on Friday 8 November 2024 from 15.00 to around 17.00 in the main hall (stora salen) of Kulturens hus. Ceremony
The ceremony starts at 16.00 in the main hall (stora salen) of Kulturens hus, Saturday 9 November 2024. The ceremony begins with a procession where the new honorary doctors, doctors, and professors march into the auditorium. All those participating in the procession gather at 15.45 at the latest outside the main hall for line-up.
Invited guests shall have taken their seats no later than 15.45, when the doors close. Seating is free, except for reserved seats at the front.
If you considering bringing children to the ceremony, it is important to know that the ceremony in Kulturens hus is long, about two hours, and children need to be able to sit in their seats during the whole ceremony.
Live streaming
We plan to livestream the ceremony in Kulturens hus. A link to the live stream will be posted on this page. You can share the link with family and friends who are unable to attend.
The camera will be directed towards the stage from the back of the hall. The audience will not be filmed. The live stream will not be available for later viewing.
Banquet
After the ceremony, there are free buses for the banquet guests to the university campus where the banquet is held at the restaurant STUK. The banquet begins with mingling and is followed by a three-course dinner with drinks and coffee, entertainment, and speeches.
At dinner, your guests sit at your table, and you find the seating arrangement on site.
At the banquet, all guests are served the same menu, considering special diets and allergies that you specify when registering. However, there is no children's menu.
Dinner is usually finished around 23.00 and after that, everyone is invited to dance. The restaurant STUK is then open for other guests. A link to purchase after-party tickets will be provided later.
Dress code
Those taking part in the procession wear formal attire. This means a tailcoat with white vest and white bow tie, black socks and black shoes, alternatively a long dress or a two-piece garment with a long skirt in your chosen colour. Other types of formal attire, such as uniform or folk costume, are also acceptable.
In Luleå, you can rent a tailcoat at Skräddar'n, Tullgatan 12, Luleå, 0920-691 19.
The dress code for banquet guests is tailcoat or dark suit alternatively a long dress or a two-piece garment with a long skirt. For guests who only attend the ceremony in Kulturens hus, a proper outfit is fine.

Photography
Before the ceremony, there is a group photo at 14:30 together with the Vice- Chancellor. Gathering no later than 5 minutes before outside the Main Hall in Kulturens hus.
Own photography during the ceremony in Kulturens hus is permitted from the respective seat, but not on the stage. Avoid noisy or bulky cameras.
Luleå University of Technology will hire a photographer who you can book to take portraits of you and your guests in connection with the banquet at restaurant STUK. More information and a link for booking a photo session will be provided later.
The university's photographers will also take pictures during the ceremony and the mingling. The images may be published on, for example, the university's website and social media.
Cancellations
Any cancellations must be notified as soon as possible to akademiskhogtid@ltu.se. Cancellations for banquet guests later than one week before the banquet will not be refunded. Please note that non-payment does not count as a cancellation.
