Durability of Polymer Composites for hydrogen delivery and storage
The scientific/technological objective of the project is to design lightweight polymer composite materials for use in high pressure hydrogen fuel tanks and delivery systems.
"The project is defined with the focus on development of a fossil-free hydrogen transportation in Sweden which is within vision set by the Center for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden. The project intends to build up at Luleå University of Technology a strong platform for research in polymers and composites for use in hydrogen under high pressure by gaining necessary skills as well as consolidating expertise at university on this topic to make Luleå University of Technology more competitive", Roberts Joffe says, Professor in Polymeric Composite Materials at Luleå University of Technology.
The scientific/technological objective of the project is to design lightweight polymer composite materials for use in high pressure hydrogen fuel tanks and delivery systems. With the focus on ageing of polymers/composites under rapidly changing pressure/temperature in hydrogen environment.
Although the main project approach is related to materials science research, the transferring results to engineering design is of importance and implementation of these materials on industrial scale will be addressed: long term performance under service conditions, structural integrity, safety, testing.
