About the Academy for the Future of Health
The Academy for Future of Health provides a shared environment for doctoral students conducting health research at Luleå University of Technology. Through the academy, doctoral students explore perspectives from other disciplines and discuss questions relevant to several areas of health research. In-depth study within their own discipline takes place in their respective research subjects.
The Academy for Future of Health was established in 2019 to create a larger and more cohesive doctoral research environment in health at Luleå University of Technology. Several research subjects have relatively small groups of doctoral students. The academy gives doctoral students access to a wider network and more opportunities to meet, exchange experiences and learn from one another’s perspectives. This can support both learning and a more supportive working environment during their doctoral studies.
The academy offers regular seminars on health, research methods and stress management.
Seminars for discussion and learning
All doctoral students are invited to seminars held approximately once a month. These are led by doctoral students together with invited senior researchers. Participants can attend all seminars either online or in person.
Doctoral students’ preferences play an important role in planning the seminars. Over the past year, topics have included stress and recovery, tools for stress management, project planning, visual abstracts and AI-generated images, writing the introductory synthesis of a doctoral thesis, applying for research funding, career paths and CV’s. The academy also organises manuscript seminars and reflection seminars in connection with doctoral thesis defences.
Steering group
The academy is led by a steering group comprising representatives from the research subjects in health, a doctoral student representative, the Head of the Department of Health, Education and Technology, and the Head of the Academy for Future of Health.
Representatives from Region Norrbotten and the municipalities of Norrbotten have previously served on the academy’s steering group. Their involvement has helped connect the doctoral research environment with organisations outside the university.
