Student union
As of July 1, 2010, the compulsory student union has been abolished. Since student participation and involvement in and monitoring of the development of education and conditions for studies at universities and colleges is considered important, this has been met by new rules on student unions.
Regulation
Luleå University of Technology has made a decision on a regulation regarding how a student union at the university should report its activities and its number of members. The regulations have been made on the basis of the Student Union Ordinance (2009:769) Section 6. The regulation is stated in section 3.2 of the guidelines for the establishment of the student union at Luleå University of Technology. Adopted on 27 June 2022. Effective June 27, 2022.

These new rules, which enter into force on July 1, 2010, are expressed as an amendment to the Higher Education Act (SFS 2009:766), an amendment to the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2009:770) and a newly adopted Student Union Ordinance (SFS 2009:769).
