Taking the exam
In order to take an exam, you must be registered for the exam by the last day of registration.
Important to know before the exam
- There are rules of order and information about fire alarms in the exam rooms.
- Arrive in good time for the exam. The exam room opens for ID control 30 minutes before the exam starts.
- If you wish, you can bring something to eat or drink. You cannot go to buy something to eat during the exam.
- Do not bring nuts to exam halls as some people are allergic to them.
- Make sure you fill in the cover sheet properly. If it is unclear, the exam cannot be scanned. You must write in black or blue ink and the numbers must be clear.
Rules of procedure for written exams
The rules apply to all written exams at all campuses at Luleå University of Technology and at the study centers approved by Luleå University of Technology to hold written exams. The rules aim to prevent cheating and disruptive behaviour from occurring at written exams and that the examinations can thereby be carried out with legal certainty.
General rules
During the exam, you must follow the instructions and rules of order. It is the responsibility of each student to implement the control measures that may be relevant. Failure to do so is grounds for cancelling the exam.
Personal belongings
The invigilator decides where bags, coats, wallets, pencil cases and other personal belongings should be placed.
Mobile phones and other electronic equipment
Mobile phones and other electronic equipment must be stored in the student's bag or jacket or with the invigilator. Mobile phones, other electronic equipment and all alarms must be switched off. Exceptions apply to electronic equipment that constitutes an aid for a disability, such as a hearing aid.
Participation in the exam
The invigilator assigns a place in the examination room.
- Registered students who arrive for the exam later than 45 minutes after the scheduled time will lose their place. No student may leave the exam room during the first 60 minutes of the exam.
- If a student has not registered for the exam, the student can only take the exam subject to availability. The student must then present a registration certificate and a certificate of results and may enter the examination room no earlier than 45 minutes after the start of the examination, but no later than 60 minutes.
- Scratch paper and exam paper is provided by the invigilator when the exam starts. No other paper may be used.
- Toilet visits take place after permission from the invigilator in a specially designated toilet. Students must sign a toilet log when going to the toilet. The log includes name, social security number, course code, the time when the student leaves the room and the time when the student returns to the room. Toilet logs are available from each hall monitor. It is not possible to use the toilet during the first hour of the exam.
Identity check
In order to participate in the exam, the student must have a valid ID with a photograph and sign the attendance list. Accepted IDs are:
- Passport
- Swedish national ID card
- Swedish driving license
- Swedish SIS-marked ID card or ID card issued by a state authority.
- Citizens of an EU/EEA country without a Swedish personal identity number can use a national ID card.
- LTU card
If you do not have an ID document, you can get a temporary LTU card for SEK 50 at Service Point.
Assistive devices
Only aids that are specified as permitted for the exam may be used. Students are obliged to show any aids and any other property found at the writing site when asked.
Prohibition to talk for students taking the exam
Order and silence must prevail in the examination room. If there is communication between the candidates in the examination room, or attempts at conversation, the invigilator has the right to immediately expel the person or persons who violate the rules of order.
Submission of the exam
The student must use a ballpoint pen or ink pen, blue or black ink, to complete the information on the cover sheet. For digital exams, submission takes place in the digital tool. A valid ID document must be presented when submitting the exam. When the exam time is over, the student may no longer answer the exam questions. Submitted exams are assessed and results are reported in Ladok.
Disciplinary measures
A student who, despite a warning from the invigilator, disrupts or obstructs the examination or does not follow instructions may be asked to stop writing immediately and is obliged to leave the examination room. When disrupting or hindering the conduct of the exam, this must be reported to the Vice-Chancellor or to the person delegated by the Vice-Chancellor.
If the invigilator suspects that the student has unauthorized aids, the student must show the object or objects.
In case of violation of the rules of order or suspicion of attempted misleading during the exam, cheating, it must be reported to the Vice-Chancellor or to the person delegated by the Vice-Chancellor.
In case of a fire alarm
- Leave all materials on the bench.
- Leave the premises.
- Go to the assembly point Opens in new window..
- After approval to re-enter the room, the student must decide whether the exam should be submitted and corrected according to the regular procedure or cancel the exam. Students who cancel the exam are offered a new exam opportunity, normally within 14 days and within the semester.
