What does the law say?
By law, the university is obliged to work purposefully to promote students' equal rights. In addition, each year the university must draw up a plan with measures to prevent and stop anyone from being subjected to violations. The university is obliged to investigate the circumstances of harassment and take measures to prevent it. The law also states that the university may not subject the person who reports harassment to retaliation of any kind.
The university is obliged to initiate an investigation even if no formal report has been filed, but it has become aware in other ways that a student believes he or she has been subjected to harassment.
The obligation to investigate and take action is sanctioned by damages.
Policy documents
The university has produced a policy and action plan for the work on equal conditions for students and employees. It describes the organization and responsibility for issues of equal treatment.
If you have questions about equal treatment, you can contact the Student Health Service, the student unions or the university's reference group for work on equal conditions.
Direct responsibility for ensuring that students are not subjected to special treatment, harassment or abuse lies with heads of department and other managers. The Vice-Chancellor has the overall responsibility.
