Study planning
Workload and credits
The scope of the training is defined according to a credit system. Full-time studies during a normal academic year of 40 weeks correspond to 60 credits. One week of full-time study corresponds to 40 hours of study time. It is important that credits are awarded on the basis of a reasonable assessment of the expected time required when planning courses and course elements.
Submission of assignments
Various assignments in courses must be handed out in good time so that the student has a reasonable opportunity to complete the assignment and receive feedback on it before the examination. It is important that the scope of the assignments corresponds to the expected time required and the points awarded.
Disability
Students with documented reading and writing difficulties or other disabilities have opportunities for educational support in their studies. At the university, coordination for students with disabilities is carried out by the Student Division. It is the student's responsibility to contact Student to gain access to such support. It is also the student's responsibility to inform teachers, examiners, exam administration and study counselors about their disability. This is in accordance with the adopted Guidelines for handling special educational support in case of disability.
Timetable
The schedule for a course must be available on Luleå University of Technology's website no later than ten working days before the start of the course. Schedule changes after this time should not occur if the change is not caused by purely course administrative reasons or to create better conditions for student learning. In order for the schedule to be finalized within the specified time, it is the departments' responsibility to submit the necessary schedule documentation within the specified time. Changes to the schedule after the start of the course can be made after consultation with the course participants. Changes in the schedule are announced immediately. The course coordinator is responsible for providing information about any changes to the schedule.
The examiner and/or teacher responsible for the course must consider and respect the module schedule, examination periods and common scheduled activities when planning and scheduling teacher-led teaching. Module planning of courses should be available at least ten working days before the deadline for application to courses and programs.
Study guidance and career orientation
In order to support and facilitate the individual student's planning of studies, the university shall have a well-functioning study guidance service where the student is given the opportunity to discuss different educational choices and discuss possible alternative routes to different degrees.
The student's responsibility
Students are responsible for planning their studies and their own knowledge development. The study planning can take place with the support of, for example, study counselors, educational leaders, examiners and other teachers. This includes, among other things
- The student is obliged to register for the course at the start of the course.
- The student is responsible for notifying the specialization in due time in cases where the program has specializations.
- The student is responsible for registering for examinations by the last day of registration.
- Students are responsible for their own individual study planning.
- The student is obliged to stay informed about what concerns the studies by regularly reading their student email and taking part in the course and education information available at Mitt LTU, on the university's website and on the learning platform.
- The student is responsible for being updated in terms of their education plan and reading order.
Interruption of studies on a course
There are two types of interruption of a course: early interruption within three weeks after the start of the course and interruption later than three weeks after the start of the course. Early interruption is done by the student himself via his user on My LTU. Cancellation later than three weeks after the start of the course is notified in writing via a form on the student web.
Interruption of studies on a program
Students who intend to interrupt their studies early, i.e. finish their studies before graduation, must report this in writing on the form available on the student web. The date of the interruption is the date you fill in the form.
Suspension of studies
Students can continue their studies after a study break if there are special reasons. Special reasons include social, medical or other special circumstances such as childcare, military or civilian service or student union assignments. Basic military training according to the Ordinance (2015:613) on basic military training. Special reasons can also be time-limited probationary employment under Section 12 of the Act (2012:332) on certain military employment or service in the Swedish Armed Forces for those employed as temporary group officers, soldiers or sailors under this Act.
The student is guaranteed the right to return to the course after an approved break. It is the student's responsibility to monitor and follow the instructions specified in the decision before returning to studies. The application for a study break must be made in writing using a form on the university's student web. The decision that a student may continue his or her studies after a leave of absence shall relate to a specific period of time.
If a student leaves their studies without having a granted study break, the student is considered to have interrupted their studies. This means that a student who does not follow the procedure for applying for a study break risks losing the opportunity to continue their studies at the time they wish. The opportunity to continue their studies is then only available if there is a vacancy.
