The first conference in Mineral Processing was arranged in Luleå as early as 1976. Since then, a conference in Mineral Processing has been held in Luleå every year (except in 1988 when the division arranged the XVI IMPC, 5-10 June, in Stockholm instead).

In 2007, the conference was marked "Grand Finale", as it was the last year with Professor Eric Forssberg as chairman.
