27th International Conference on Spectral Line Shapes
August 9th-14th, 2026 in Luleå, Sweden
The 27th International Conference on Spectral Line Shapes (ICSLS) will take place at Luleå University of Technology from Sunday, August 9th (evening reception) to Friday, August 14th. ICSLS is a biannual conference series started in Paris-Meudon, France, in 1973, and it is held alternating at European, North-American, and (lately) Asian locations. The last three editions were held in Dublin, Ireland (2018), Caserta, Italy (2022), and Otsu, Japan (2024).
Luleå is located on the coast of the Bothnian Bay, about 100 km south of the Arctic Circle, and an 80 min flight from Stockholm. Luleå has an impressive archipelago and mid-August displays its beautiful and special nature at its best. It is also home of the UNESCO world heritage site Gammelstad Church Town. A 430 km drive or train ride northwest, into Swedish Lapland, past the mining town Kiruna, you find lovely Abisko National Park. Luleå is at the center of a vibrant region, where large investments are made in industrial and infrastructure projects to facilitate a sustainable future.
ICSLS 2026 will cover a broad range of topics related to spectral line shape studies, including:
- atoms and molecules in neutral gaseous mixtures
- single and multi-photoionization processes
- high and low temperature plasmas
- high temperature environments
- spectroscopy of astrophysical objects and environments
- clusters and helium droplets
- cold atoms and molecules
- collision-induced spectra
- nanophotonic processes
- spectroscopy of materials
- new methods for calculating line shapes
- new techniques for line shape measurements
- applications in fundamental metrology
- applications in industry, atmospheric and environmental monitoring, combustion, and medical diagnostics
The conference will include a mix of invited lectures, contributed talks, and poster presentations.

Proceedings
Conference proceedings will be published in Journal of Physics: Conference Series, following a long tradition of ICSLS.
The deadline for paper submission is October 15, 2026. We encourage submission of manuscripts with a maximum of 7 pages for research presented at ICSLS 2026 (in the form of invited talk, contributed talk, or poster).
Author guidelines for conference proceedings are available on the IOP web site. Authors must prepare their papers using Microsoft Word or LaTeX2e templates, and then convert these to PDF format for submission. Templates can be downloaded here.
It is important to ensure that you submit your paper in its final form, ready for publication. IOP do not copy edit or reformat papers and will not send out author proofs prior to publication. Post-publication changes are not permitted, so please ensure that your paper has been checked for errors.
Manuscript submission should be done by the author on the Morressier platform using this link. (If you have an ORCID, then it is possible to use that to log in without creating a new account. Under "Create a new paper submission" click Login, then Sign in with ORCID.)
