Innovation platform for sustainable attractive cities
In the accelerating need for conversion of cities and communities, necessary all over the world, Kiruna has the opportunity to be in the frontline due to the city transformation, caused by the local mine. The process forces the municipality to speed up planning and building of a sustainable and carbon dioxide neutral city, 250km north of the Arctic Circle, in an arctic climate.
To manage the challenge that the city transformation presents the municipality with, there is a need for new technology, but perhaps mainly forms for an innovation- and development driven organization with methods to support decision-making. Challenges that are critical for Kiruna right now, will emboss city planning on a global scale in the near future. The project aims to support Kiruna municipality in this work by developing new working methods that bridge traditional administrative boundaries.
The new project Innovation platform for sustainable attractive cities will work to develop new working methods in order to better capture ideas and innovations in the needed urban transformation. The objective is to help Kiruna municipality to become more innovative in its processes. The project constellation that are involved, besides Kiruna municipality, are Luleå University of Technology and RISE. Luleå University of Technology joins as project partner and will, in collaboration with Kiruna, support the needed change and development of the innovation system and culture in the municipal group over a period of 3-years.
