Qualitative follow-up of design-build contracts
The aim of the research project is to see how procurement strategies have been implemented and how they have worked in practice, but also how the procurement strategies have affected the project outcome.
Formas, the Swedish Transport Administration, and ProcSIBE finance the project qualitative follow-up on design-build contracts. The Swedish Transport Administration has in their change process towards ‘purifying’ their client role a goal that 50 per cent of all procured projects should be design-build contracts. The aim is to reach long-term productivity via enabling short-term efficiency and long-term innovation, this by increasing responsibility and engagement from the contractor side. A large number of design-build contracts has been procured and executed since the decision to increase the number of these types of contracts.
'To be able to understand how this change has affected the outcome it is important to study several executed projects to see what procurement strategies that have been used and what consequences this has resulted in', says Anna-Therése Järvenpää whom works as a doctoral student in the project.
'By evaluating the experiences from these design-build contracts, we will be able to answer the research questions, but also to be able to suggest solutions regarding efficiency and innovation, and to help with the continuing improvements of the Swedish Transport Administration’s procurement and business strategies', Anna-Therése continues.
The project will continue until 2021.
