Waste and material handling - Kiruna Sustainability Center

Waste and materials management is about how sustainable systems can be developed for Kiruna municipality conditions.

Initially, focus has been on the management of organic waste, such as food waste, sludge from water treatment, manure, etc. The method closest to evaluation is drying, in order to reduce weight and hygiene problems. The dried product is then intended to be used in any existing biogas reactor. Other options such as hydrothermal carbonization are also on the map. Alternative waste transportation and the use of waste in cultivation are also part of the management system that is being developed, as well as organizational aspects such as business and community interaction.
