There exists great potential to increase the flexibility of assembly lines for truck manufacturing by moving away from the fixed sequence station-based lines towards dynamic self-balancing lines.
This would, in short, streamline the manufacturing process as it would be easier to deal with sudden changes in customer demand, unforeseen disturbances such as delayed parts and failing equipment.
The goal of this prestudy is to develop a software solution where engineers initially define plans based on partial ordering rather than on total ordering and where serialized total order schedules can be auto generated and tested beforehand by software. This would result in the improvement of both flexibility and adaptability in industrial assembly lines.
